Fashion Addiction

Fashion brands and styles of others, have become my neighborhoods new addiction. People go out of their way to obtain high fashion brands, only to keep up with the next person. What ever happened to having your own sense of style, which allowed you to stand out within the crowd. Fashion now seems to cause so much jealousy and envy. Where I'm from, with out the clothes, you stand not to exist. So lets get back to ourselves before we all become fashion misfits of 2012.
People spend all they have to buy the latest jeans and shoes. I watch kids get neglected because their mom needed those new True Religion jeans. The real truth is, the money she spent was needed at home, as her kids sleep uncomfortably in the cold. She's trying to keep up with her girls because they stay rocking the best gear. It's sad to say that if she doesn't get her priorities together she'll be asking her friends can she move in with them next year. We assume that we gain our attention based upon what clothes we wear, so we buy into fashion and at the same time, loose ourselves.
When I was growing up, I took old clothes and made them new. I would receive compliments and questions from people, asking wear they could find my clothes. It felt good knowing that only from my closet they could be sold. My style was my own and as we grow somehow we allow the world to change our ways. We loose a little bit of our uniqueness along the way. The part of us that gave your friends an idea of what you like to wear, has suddenly vanished in thin air. Fashion controls the neighborhood now and you can barely catch anyone with their own style. This makes me want to start my own clothing line, watching all the crowds look the same as they constantly display the same brand names. People have lost focus on what really matters these days, like  all your hopes and dreams.
There's more to life and you may be missing out if fashion continues to be the only thing you think about. Now as for those who chose fashion as a career, the last statement doesn't apply to you. for those who were lost, I hope soon you can be found. Become the person everyone wants to be, make your name the next brand. Love yourself enough to realize that clothes don't make you, but they will break you.
